Today is the first Monday in April, so it is time for the Designer Crafts Connection Blog Hop! This month's theme is Handmade Flowers - perfect for SPRING!
I have been inspired by Georgia O'Keeffe since I was in high school. I love her compositions, colors and larger than life interpretation of nature have always amazed me. This Altered Flower Canvas is a tribute to her style of American Modernism.
Paint a 16" by 20" canvas purple. Draw a 7 small and 8 large petal shapes on poster board, decoupage patterned tissue on petals, then cut out. Paint petals in a very loose and watered down style using Purple Cow, Lavender and Grape Juice Americana acrylic paints by DecoArt. Create additional depth with DecoArt's Triple Thick Gloss Glaze, painted on randomly. Bend and fold petals to create dimension. Attach large petals with Tombow USA MONO Aqua Liquid Glue, then attach small petals, let dry. Reshape petals as necessary.
Repeat above steps with 2 small and 1 large leaves and Hauser Medium Green paint. Attach to back of canvas with Tombow USA MONO Aqua Liquid Glue.
Create flower center from Kunin Ecofi Rainbow ClassicFelt™ in Gold (2) and Goldenrod (1) by cutting into strips then fringing. Wind stripes together, securing with Tombow USA MONO Aqua Liquid Glue. inish center of flower with gancy black button.
Create a flower to match YOUR home decor, hang and enjoy!
Now, it's time to HOP around to the other designers participating in the Designer Crafts Connection Blog Hop and be inspired by their Spring Flowers creations. Use the DCC box in my right hand sidebar to navigate FORWARD and BACKWARD - there is a bunch of inspiration out there!
Thanks for stopping by! -Beth
